Recycling

Recycling

The UK disposes of a million waste tyres a year. If not properly reused, recycled or disposed, waste tyres can:

Impact on the environment, affect local communities, and undermine legitimate businesses.

Waste tyres can be used in various ways. They can provide fuel for cement kilns or be turned into products such as flooring, road surfaces, furniture and shoes.

Bales of tyres can be used in the construction of modern engineered landfill sites and flood defences.

If waste tyres are in good condition, they can be re-moulded and put back on the road as ‘re-treads’.

In 2010, just over 30 per cent of waste tyres were turned into crumb, 18 per cent were used in energy recovery, nearly 20 per cent were re-used (in the UK or abroad), 16 per cent were specifically used in landfill engineering and 11 per cent were re-treaded.

New Life From Old Tyres

Old tyres are currently used in a wide range of applications. Out of the 50 million used tyres that are currently collected each year, 34 per cent are used in new products, 25 per cent are used as energy sources (typically in cement and lime kilns), 6 per cent are used in retreading, 10 per cent are used in landfill engineering and the remaining 25 per cent are reused.

Tyre Bales PAS 108

UK Tyre Waste collect and recycle used tyres.

From this we can provide PAS 108 bales.

We are actively promoting this totally sustainable product in large scale civil engineering projects.

Tyre bales are already being used in projects as diverse as drainage engineering, landscaping, and from noise barriers to flood defences. See our applications page for more details.

Baled tyres have been shown to be a effective construction material with the added bonus of been environmentally friendly.

The bales we produce are to the PAS108 standard and these bales can be used in many construction projects such as:-

Landfill cell engineering

Road construction over landfill

Road sub base over marginal soil

Retaining walls

Gabions and waterway control

Flood control

Ground/Road surface level elevation

Drainage soak away on motorways

Land reclamation

Dam construction

Filtration systems

French drains

Foundation for racecourse/horse ridding arena

Prevents landslides and erosion

As well as vast usage these blocks have. They also have great advantages including:-

Lighter weight 30% less than soil and lower earth pressures

Greatly improved drainage

High load bearing capacity

Excellent thermal insulation

Pre compressed material

Uniform size blocks allow for easy building and placement

Readily stackable

Environmentally safe

Stable over a wide range of temperatures

Virtually indestructible
